Empower 40 & beyond

The intention of this campaign aims to shift the narrative around beauty and aging. Creating powerful imagery that celebrates the challenges, breakthroughs, and wisdom that we cultivate as we grow older and more comfortable in our skin as women. This project was launched in August 2020 and culminated in an Exhibit on International Women’s Day, March 8, 2024 at Clearstory arts.

Thank you to all the women who participated and to everyone that attended.

celebrating wisdom

I launched this campaign in August of 2020. My intention was to photograph 40 women over 40, celebrating their life and their stories through powerful imagery. I created this campaign to usher in a new narrative. A new culture where we celebrate the women we love at every stage of their lives. To abandon the constant pursuit and preservation of youth, and embrace an intentional honoring of the unique beauty and wisdom that emerges as we age.

Shifting the narrative

We as women have the power to change the culture. When we show up authentically in our power, we give others the permission to do the same. Something happens on a cultural level where we as women hit a certain age and we feel we are no longer worthy of being seen or celebrated through photographs.

Main stream media has been bombarding us with imagery for decades that perpetuates body dysmorphia and ageism. As a portrait photographer it is my responsibility to help create a substantial shift. With every session, with every woman that I have had the honor of photographing over the past 3.5 years for this campaign, I believe that we are creating the change that we so desperately want for future generations.

An exhibit, culmination, and celebration for the Empower 40 & beyond campaign was held on Friday, March 8, 2024, in the center gallery at Clearstory Arts in Chattanooga TN.

Deeply grateful to all the women who participated and to all those that attended the event. As a token of gratitude and to pay it forward a portion of the proceeds were donated to a local non-profit for women. We raised $2,160 for Chattanooga Room in the Inn.

Thank you again from the bottom of my heart. Stay tuned for the next series as I continue my work as a portrait artist to elevate and empower women.
